Continuing along the top 10 series for aquiring a social media job today with tip number 8.
Let us quickly recap what we have talked about so far:
Tip 10: Get over your ego.
Tip 9: Get over your pride.
Tip 8: Know your (future) product or industry.
In keeping with the case study so far, this would mean that you have at least a rudimentary understanding of wine and the wine industry in the United States. Thankfully you are applying for an internet based job, so you can google loads and come across as competent. I have taken the pains and hours of research over and present you with my results:
Here are some great sources of information concerning the Wine Industry in the United States:
- Free the Grapes
- Dave Ready on Wine Biz Radio
- Caveman Wines
- The Winery Web Site Report
- VinTank (& whitepaper)
Can you add a few to my list?

Oooo I love gummy candies! :b Confused on how my name end up in the video but hey, I’ll take it!
True that you should know the wine industry. I think at minimum, you probably must be familiar with being a consumer of wine. I wrote a blog post called Wine Tasting 101 – for the complete novice, to break down that intimidation barrier that may precede going into a tasting room.
The Russian River Wine Road in Sonoma also has a great Wine 101 site about this which goes into even more detail than I did.
Finally, I think the wikipedia description of grape varieties is comprehensive.
Hope these links add value to this post.

Ooo woops, I was trying to comment on another post. Obviously I’m trying to work out the kinks navigating WP. But since I’m here
* I love that candy.
* I agree – I’m happy to say I know a bit of wine. Rudimentary sure – but knowledge none the less.
